SELECTION
GUIDE #4 - WAREHOUSE MAGNETS
|
|
Shelf Tag Supply
offers industrial strength magnets for a variety of applications
in your
warehouse. Indicate products, locations, styles and other
criteria by color, shape or
message content. Magnets move quickly and easily as space
and priorities change.
Magnetic strength is determined principally by 3 factors:
1. Magnet thickness – generally the thicker, the stronger
2. Magnetic material – special ferrite content produces
stronger “high energy” magnets (about 40% stronger
than regular material) for the same thickness
3. Smoothness of magnet and the surface it to which it is
bonding– the smoother the surfaces, the stronger the
bond
Time is another strength factor. An interesting phenomenon
occurs when both the surfaces are quite smooth as is generally
the case in shelf and rack applications. After 24 to 48 hours,
the strength of the magnet bond may double, requiring twice
as much force to slide the magnet out of position. It is believed
that this results from the flexible magnetic material gradually
flowing into the micro cavities of the other surface to increase
the coefficient of friction. If the magnet is slid to a new
position, it will take some time (1-2 days) to improve the
bond again.
